Vyacheslav Molotov was the Soviet union’s foreign minister during WW2, and was responsible for a lot of the propaganda the Soviets sent out when they were invading finland in late 1939. One of the things Molotov claimed was that the Soviets were using bombers to deliver humanitarian food aid to the fins, but surprise surprise, the Russian bombers were actually delivering bombs. During the invasion of Finland, one of the largest advantages the Russians had were tanks, however some of the early models of the war were open at the top, allowing the fins to use throwable weapons against them. They improvised their own incendiary grenades using a glass bottle, a wick or cloth, and gasoline, and in response to molotovs “food” deliveries, they called them “molotov’s cocktails”
