In today’s CS News Live, we discuss the longest CS2 match, Falcons’ $7 million win, and the IEM Cologne finals. A team on Faceit faced off against three smurfs, dragging the match to 156 rounds over 5 hours, ending with a 79-77 score. Falcons won $7 million by topping the esports world cup’s club ranking, securing 4220 points. This system benefits organizations with multiple rosters, which raises fairness concerns.
In IEM Cologne, no matches were played on Vertigo or Ancient despite their popularity in earlier stages, highlighting issues with the current CS2 map pool. Pro players noted that Virtus.pro and Na’Vi are the toughest to face, with Virtus.pro’s James being particularly unpredictable and Na’Vi’s players maintaining a strong hold on positions. JL from Na’Vi made a public statement after fans criticized him for refusing to shake hands, explaining it was a precaution to avoid getting sick.
Thorin compared Valorant and CS2 tournaments, noting that Valorant’s feel small in scale, lacking the hype of larger CS events. Apex, the French captain, shared that passion and a desire to win are key to his and FaZe’s consistent success.
Perseverance Gaming, a Tier 2 tournament organizer, suspended operations following the death of one of their founders. At M.O.U.S. bootcamp, players practiced in a setup mimicking the Lanxess Arena stage, though they still didn’t advance past the semifinals.
In a Cologne show match on Train, Tapson’s team narrowly beat Regan’s 13-12, with the match featuring several unusual rounds. Moving to the IEM Cologne finals, Na’Vi and Vitality faced off. Na’Vi started strong on their map pick, Nuke, but Vitality’s Zywoo turned the tide, leading to a Vitality win. On Dust2, Na’Vi took the lead, but Vitality clawed back, making it 1-1. The match on Mirage was intense, with Vitality eventually securing the win in triple overtime. Vitality then dominated on Inferno, and despite a brief Na’Vi comeback, they won the series 3-1, taking the IEM Cologne title. Zywoo was named MVP, while Na’Vi players were left in tears.
