The Spanish CSGO Prodigy Who Got a Second Shot at Glory with Valorant

Oscar ‘Mixwell’ Cañellas is arguably the best CS:GO player Spain has ever produced.

Despite having an immense pedigree in traditional sports like soccer, and being surrounded by some of the most successful nations in esports, Spain itself has never had much of a CS:GO scene. As a young, prodigal talent, Mixwell had little trouble rising to the top domestically, but he could never quite take his teams to the next level internationally.

An opportunity to represent OpTic Gaming came along, however, and Mixwell seized it. He travelled across the world to make his name, and while not everything went his way, during his time in OpTic he helped claim what was then the biggest international victory by a predominantly North American team in CS:GO.

After departing OpTic, however, Mixwell has struggled to find a new home that quite fit him. Now, with the arrival of Valorant, he has looked away from the game he made his name in, and is working to build a new legacy in the burgeoning esports scene of Riot’s tactical FPS.

This is the story of Mixwell, the lone Spanish prodigy who tried to carry a nation, featuring insights on his journey from the man himself.
